Intensive English Learning Centre (IELC)
IELC delivers high-quality English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) for both under-18 and adult learners. Our programs help international students develop English language skills for study, work, and everyday communication, supporting learners with different goals, backgrounds, and levels of English proficiency.
IELC provides a supportive learning environment where students build confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English. Teaching and learning are practical and interactive, designed to meet learning needs and their study intentions.
Courses support a variety of learner pathways, including preparation for mainstream schooling, higher education, and vocational education and training (VET), as well as English language development for work, travel, and personal use.
All courses are delivered by qualified and experienced English language teachers who guide and support students throughout their learning journey, helping them progress confidently toward their individual goals.
Under-18 English Programs
(Preparation for Mainstream Schooling Pathways)
IELC offers specialised ELICOS programs for students under 18 who are preparing to transition into Australian mainstream schooling. These programs focus on developing English language proficiency, academic skills, and classroom confidence needed to participate successfully in an Australian school environment.
Teaching and learning are structured to reflect the language needed in the classroom including understanding teacher instructions, participating in class discussions, understanding subject-based texts, and producing written text across learning areas. Our programs are informed by the language and learning expectations students will encounter in mainstream schooling. Units are contextualised through themes informed by the Australian Curriculum learning areas (ACARA), including Mathematics, Science, and Humanities, to support academic vocabulary development and classroom readiness.
Learning includes school-style learning routines and assessment types that reflect those used in mainstream classrooms, supporting a smooth transition into future studies and ensuring students are ready for the Australian classroom environment.
Programs are delivered in a safe, supportive, and age-appropriate environment, with a strong focus on student wellbeing and pastoral care. Classes are delivered on the Adelaide International School (AIS) campus, providing students with access to a structured school environment. Student progress is regularly monitored, and feedback is provided to support informed pathway decisions into mainstream schooling or further English language study.
